On 18th April the results of Gateway&Partners research of the deposit system was presented at a press conference organized by the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the largest Latvian business association. The research introduced a compulsory beverage packaging deposit system, as well as on the impact on the Latvian economy.
In order to get the best results, the study also analyzed the introduction of a deposit system in other European countries.
Introducing a deposit system for beverage packaging in Latvia, it would bring about 15-19 thousand tons of beverage packaging, which is only 6% of the total packaging placed on the market, accounting for less than 1% of all waste collected in Latvia.
Project execution helped to indicate the most crucial and missing elements in the deposit system and left the place to come up with new and innovative solutions in waste management.
